Brighton Le Sands, originally Brighton-le-Sands, is a suburb in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, commonly known as Brighton or Brighton Beach.
Brighton Le Sands is on the western bank of Botany Bay, 13 kilometers south of Sydney`s central business district. It is part of the Bayside Council`s local government area and the St George area.
History of Brighton Le Sands
Seven Mile Beach was the name given to the area between the Cooks River and the Georges River. In 1874, it was renamed Lady Robinsons Beach in honor of Governor Sir Hercules Robinson`s wife.
Thomas Saywell, a tramway pioneer, gave his new housing complex the name New Brighton in honor of the famed beach town Brighton in England.
