Burraneer is a bayside suburb in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It lies 26 kilometers south of Sydney`s central business district and is part of the Sutherland Shire`s local government area.
Burraneer is situated on the north coast of the Port Hacking estuary, on the peninsula of Burraneer Point. The western border is formed by Burraneer Bay, while the eastern border is formed by Gunnamatta Bay. Woolooware is the only suburb nearby.
Burranear Bay was the name given to Burraneer Bay by surveyor Robert Dixon in 1827. Many of the bays in the area have Aboriginal names thanks to Robert.
Burraneer Bay is commonly thought to be the bay`s mean point, according to an over-reading of an 1890 report by Richard Hill.
