About Burraneer
Burraneer is a bayside suburb in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It lies 26 kilometers south of Sydney`s central business district and is part of the Sutherland Shire`s local government area.
Burraneer is situated on the north coast of the Port Hacking estuary, on the peninsula of Burraneer Point. The western border is formed by Burraneer Bay, while the eastern border is formed by Gunnamatta Bay. Woolooware is the only suburb nearby.
History of Burraneer
Burranear Bay was the name given to Burraneer Bay by surveyor Robert Dixon in 1827. Many of the bays in the area have Aboriginal names thanks to Robert.
Burraneer Bay is commonly thought to be the bay`s mean point, according to an over-reading of an 1890 report by Richard Hill.
Tourist Attractions in Burraneer
Burraneer has several small park reserves, some of which feature playground equipment for children. At the end of Woolooware Road, you`ll find Binaville Ave Reserve and Rutherford Reserve.
Burraneer Bay Park features a woodland area, a boardwalk, a playground, and a bike/jogging path.
Cronulla and National Park Ferry Cruises also offer a fantastic cruising experience in the pristine waterways of Port Hacking.
Schools and Sports in Burraneer
Burraneer educational institutions include Our Lady of Mercy College, a Catholic girls` school for years 7 to 10, located on Dominic Street. On Cross St., De la Salle Catholic College, Cronulla, a Catholic co-educational school for students in years 11 and 12. On Burraneer Bay Road is Burraneer Bay Public School, a public primary school (kindergarten through year 6). It was formerly zoned in Woolooware, but has been a part of the Burraneer suburb since 2008.
Cronulla Seagulls FC, which is based in Woolooware, is the closest sporting club to Burraneer. Burraneer Bay, Lugano Avenue Small Craft Launching Facility, which was set to open in 2020, is a small boat launch facility that allows kayakers, rowers, and paddlers to safely access the water.
