Illawong is a suburb of Sydney, Australia, situated in the state of New South Wales. It is approximately 27 kilometers south of Sydney`s Central Business District, in the Sutherland Shire`s local government area, in the Menai area. History of Illawong
Illawong refers to the Georges and Woronora Rivers and is an Aboriginal name that means "between two waters." It was once home to the Tharawal and/or Eora tribes, who left behind several middens, rock sculptures, and cave paintings as evidence of their existence.
The Menai region was suburbanized in the 1970s, and Illawong was chosen for its ancient nautical street names.
