History of Kangaroo Point
Kangaroo Point originally comes from the peninsula on the Georges River`s southern bank.
The Dharawal Aboriginal people are the traditional owners of Kangaroo Point Peninsula, and their archaeological heritage may be seen on the peninsula in the form of middens and rockshelters. Following European settlement, John Connell Laycock received the peninsula as a Crown grant. A few years later, it was purchased by Thomas Holt, a famous landowner, investor, and politician, along with 13,000 acres (53 km2) throughout St George and Sutherland Shire. Wynn Roberts, an insurance salesman, took control in 1910, and it was subdivided in 1916. Because it was mostly empty, the area was once considered a part of Sylvania.
