About Lilli Pilli
Lilli Pilli is a small suburb in the state of New South Wales, Australia, situated in the south suburbs of Sydney. It is 26 kilometers south of Sydney`s central business district, in the Sutherland Shire local government area.
Gannons Bay, Little Turriel Bay, Port Hacking River, and Great Turriel Bay are all within sight of the suburb. Lilli Pilli Point is located off of Port Hacking Road at the end of Lilli Pilli Point Road. A similar Lilli Pilli can be found 12 kilometers south of Batemans Bay in New South Wales (postcode 2536).
History of Lilli Pilli
The lilly pilly, a native myrtle that grew on the point, inspired Lilli Pilli`s name. Thomas Holt (1811–88) owned most of the land between Sutherland and Cronulla, including the point. According to parish maps from 1840, Francis Mitchell had 20 acres (8.1 ha) of land on the point.
